This paper examines strategic voting at Scottish Parliamentary elections since 1999. The emergence of the pro-independence National Party as dominant party in Scotland has forced unionist voters to carefully consider their options. Analysing differences between simultaneous pluralist constituency ballot and proportional list Scotland’s Additional Member System provides a unique insight into how voter behaviour changed response changing political reality. finds that many have put aside left-right rivalries support fellow candidates on ballot. examination Labour Conservative are willing work together, some circumstances, defeat significant number candidates. I find intra-unionist helped prevent separatist majorities parliament both 2016 2021.
